Carnegie in Dublin
Seems like Andrew Carnegie had more influence than I can fathom. I couldn't escape the name even while in Dublin...found it on a Public Library in Rathmines, just south of my place. Looks like the school year at Carnegie Mellon will be good with art-related classes and a public policy final project. Currently I have Aesthetics, Multi-Media, and Restoration Wilkinsburg Systems Synthesis to keep me busy. Already finished a book, met the Systems client, defined group roles (I'm Manager of Design), and did a tour of our area of focus- Hamnett Place, located just east of my apartment.
Sally Gall
Aperture's current issue, the first one not to have a photograph on the cover, contains a great preview of Sally Gall's current work in progress Crawl.

The images reminded me of working on the Gestural Series, during an independent study with Julie Jones and Joel Whitaker in 2005. Both projects play with perspective and focus, showing views of nature from within nature. An image of mine:

Many of Gall's beautiful new images include hidden insects, my favorite one being Lyre from 2007, which has a spiderweb spun between two towering buds.
Melinda Simon gave me Gall's book The Water's Edge in 2006 as a gift, thinking I would be encouraged by a "lyrical visionary." I was encouraged, and it was visionary to put us together, since our work has had parallels beyond one project. How exciting to have affinities with another photographer, especially one as impressive and successful as Gall! I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of Crawl.

Benglis
During my internship, I assisted IMMA with the monograph that will accompany the touring exhibition of Lynda Benglis's work. They are working closely with Lynda and her galleries to create the fully-illustrated publication, due out in November. More about the project can be read here. While furthering my Benglis research at home, I found an intriguing exhibition up now at Cheim & Read, which includes Benglis's Female Sensibility video from 1973 and work by Marlene Dumas, Louise Bourgeois, Nan Goldin, Kara Walker, and many more.
The Female Gaze: Women Look at Women looks to be a great collection of female voices and perspectives. Showcasing this female work together heightens the sexuality in each piece and also stimulates conversation between the pieces. This show feels like a smaller version of elles@centrepompidou in Paris that impressed me enough to want to write about it later.
Food Making
The four days in between me returning to the states and us beginning the school year, Pat and I made a lot of good food. It began with gorgonzola cheeseburgers. Pizza crusts for a red pepper, artichoke, feta cheese topping (dinner) and a green & red grape, ricotta cheese, walnut topping (breakfast). A few days later we used the pasta maker for some simple fettucini, then combined everything in the fridge for a delicious soup, eventually made loaves of whole wheat bread, and even Gnocchi! This type of cooking has worked well with our low budget.
It feels good to be back.

Dublin
This summer I will be interning with the Exhibitions Department of the Irish Museum of Modern Art for ten weeks. There will be three show installations to oversee, a retrospective to organize, traveling exhibits to negotiate, in-house publications to participate in, and financial management to learn about. Can't wait for my summer of traveling, working, and art-ing in Europe!

Some Edits
After months of having no time for anything but school, I've done some editing to my blog. I finally added a page for the Fleet Series...
